In the Face Of An Angel Golf Tournament, helping to raise awareness about Ovarian Cancer.

Category Archives: Gearing up for the Tournament

Hello everyone! We have just confirmed that we have once again secured Pebblestone Golf Course in Courtice for our 8th Annual Golf for Ovarian Cancer Tournament! Kate Sobil, owner of Pebblestone Golf, and I have been in touch and firmed up the course rental and are preparing to sit down and finalize all the details! I hope you are as excited as I am!

In the past 7 years we have raised $73,285.00 for Ovarian Cancer Research and Outreach! Give yourselves a pat on your backs as without you we would never be able to achieve all we have. I am so proud of what we have been able to do with such a small “family”of golfers!  To our sponsors as well, Thank you just doesn’t seem like enough to say!

Ovarian Cancer Canada, Pebblestone Golf Club and us have worked out the “kink’s we ran into last year and hope to have smooth sailing this time round. With banking made so much easier you will be able to use your credit cards or debit this year for all your silent auction items right at the course as we have SQUARE set up for both so we are good to go!

CIRCLE the date! May 27th, tee off time will be 10:30 a.m. 1/2 hour earlier than last year so please make a note of that…watch for more updates coming out and be sure to tell your friends and relatives to donate online through our secure website and start the ball rolling won’t you? Ovarian Cancer Canada and I will thank you and so will all the recipients of our donations!

Thanks to the Municipality of Clarington for being our first sponsor of the year!

We can now add ….

Syvan Developments

The Old Newcastle House Tap and Grill

Halminen Building Corp(Courtice)

Thank you kindly! It will help to go a long way We will spend it wisely to help us raise funds for this dreaded disease!

Until next time…keep smiling!

Hi again every one!

Tonight at 9 pm is the 7th anniversary of my Mom’s death from this dreaded #1 silent killer of women’s cancers. Please get tested…do not put it off…there are virtually no symptoms so as part of your annual check up insist your doctor tests you for it. It may or may not show up but do your due diligence….we lose too many to this what they call Ovarian Cancer!

I was over to see Moe today to check how things were moving along and the course is looking lovely. They’ve done a lot of work in a few short weeks…We ought to have a great time even if it is going to be cooler…dress warm…we will all be riding a cart you know :>

I’d like to thank those businesses who have come to help already as Sponsorship’s and Hole Sponsors are coming in and we are gathering silent auction items from local businesses and Corporations as we speak. If you or your business feel would like to donate or be a part of this great cause, please let me know. I would appreciate all the participation we can muster. It is a great cause and one that needs all the exposure it can get.

Let’s face it, without the help of our business community, tournaments like this would be in jeopardy. Hats off to all of you!

If you know people who would like to donate to this tournament send them to my website at http://www.inthefaceofanangel.ca and they can follow the links to donate online. It’s easy, it is secure as it is set up by Ovarian Cancer Canada and linked with my site. Anything will be greatly appreciated and tax receipts will be issued by Ovarian Canada for any amount over $20.00

So ladies even though it may be raining today, dust off those clubs, clean up those shoes and match your outfits! LOL We’re ready to play golf for a great cause. Ovarian Cancer research and outreach programs. Help the women you know (and those that you don’t) Let’s all make a difference today!

Hello Ladies! In The Face of An Angel Golf Tournament

Here we are gearing up for our 5th Annual “In The Face of an Angel” Golf for Ovarian Cancer! Over the past 4 years we have raised $39,150 and that is just amazing for our little golf tournament of just 44 women! We truly are on a mission to help eradicate this disease!

As you are all aware by now, Cider House Golf Course has been permanently closed and we have had to look for another course to play on that is local and easy to get to, that would help us to keep our expenses down in order to enable us to send as much as we possibly could to Ovarian Cancer. This year we will be hosting our event at Ayren Links Golf Course, 5210 Bethesda Road, Bowmanville.

Ayren Links Promo PhotoAyren Links is located East of Liberty St., Bowmanville on the north side of Taunton Road. You can’t miss it and we will be playing the front 9! Everyone will have a cart and it will be great fun        just getting from one hole to another!

In the past 4 years we have been able to get started by 11:00 am but this year we have a little later start at 11:30 in order to let the regular weekend golfers get out ahead of us. Unlike Cider House, we will have to share this course with others so hence the later start. Moe assures me we will all be finished and back to the clubhouse in about 1.5 hours and ready to get to the lunch and silent auction events so please don’t anyone worry as we will have a wonderful time and I look forward to raising tons of money for our CAUSE…

We’re starting a new Chapter with our 5th Annual In The Face of an Angel being played in a different location but we will be making more fun, fond memories! So gather your girlfriends, your Sisters, your Mothers, your Aunts and your nieces and your Grandmothers and join us for this fantastic tournament once again this year2015FOAFinit2 (1)

You can contact me through my blog at http://www.inthefaceofanangel.wordpress.com or my email at wendy@inthefaceofanangel.ca for more details….so dust off those clubs and practice those swings for it won’t be long before May 31st right here! Get signed up early…you won’t want to be disappointed!

I look forward to hearing from you soon! Cheers!

With only 12 more sleeps to go before we hit the links we have been busy putting the finishing touches on the tournament. I met today with Fred Archibald at Cider House Golf Course and together we went over the details of the event. I have been busy running around gathering up the great donations that our generous sponsors have offered to us and over the next 12 days will be tagging and making up the silent auction sheets in order to be ready for Sunday May 25th.

There are a few surprises for the ladies this year and I know they will be eager to find out just what they are! Could one maybe a plane ride? Hmmm… you never know…I am not telling tho so they will just have to wait and see.  I hope they are bringing their pocket books for it will all be worth it at the end of the day.

If you have not yet registered we have room for one 4 some to join us. It is a great day of fun and for just $90 you can come along. If you have no one to come play with, we will put you on a team of ladies where you will be sure to have a lot of laughs while golfing, wine tasting and it could be a chance to meet some new friends to boot!

Also, if you have not yet made your donation online thru our website http://www.inthefaceofanangel.ca please do so now. Tell your friends and family so they can donate as well.

Until next time…

My team and I are working hard gathering sponsors and silent auction items for the most special tournament I will play in this season. I guess some might say, I am a little biased. However, things are coming together and looking like this will be another fantastic day at Cider House Golf Course  for “In The Face of an Angel” Golf for Ovarian Cancer in memory of my Mom.
We’re so excited about these tickets from Boots & Hearts we asked for clarification and here is what these tickets will get you….this is almost unbelievable…too good to be true! These tickets will get you access to the Premium Area which include a number of amenities including complimentary snacks, lounge areas, complimentary mini-massages, private bathrooms, bullpen access to front of stage and premium viewing areas to the main stage.
Food vendors and bar service will be provided on a cash basis in this area and these stations are only available to those with premium passes so line-ups will be nominal.
Just to clarify, and put this into perspective, the value of $1,300 is for a pair of Premium Tickets and General Admission tickets sold out at the price point of $269.99 plus taxes and services per ticket, so a more accurate comparison in costs is a pair of General Admission tickets at approximately $650 in value to a pair of Premium tickets at $1,300.
Currently on kijji one general admission ticket is being sold by others as high as $800 per ticket so using them as part of our silent auction we hope they will generate a great donation to In The Face of an Angel Golf for Ovarian Cancer! How great would that be!  And just think, you ladies can help make this happen! What a great feeling would be eh? Smiles all around!
Registration has now opened up as we have a few more spots left so let your friends know what a great time they will have, what great prizes they will receive and what great silent auction items are up for grabs!
We are on the eve of one month to go and counting…excitement is building ….get those clubs out ladies, it’s almost tee time!!

This just in from Boots and Hearts organizers! They have decided to donate 2 Premium Experience tickets worth $1300! What an auction item that will be for some lucky gal to go home with! The Premium Experience is the only VIP offering they have available to the public and is an upgrade to the general admission ticket. These passes are valid for the ENTIRE festival and include general admission tickets for Thursday night kick off party and provide access to the ULTIMATE Boots and Hearts experience on site Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! What a great opportunity to come golf, enjoying that day for a great charity and walk away with 2 Premium Experience tickets from our auction for the Boots and Hearts weekend! It doesn’t get better than that if you are a true country fan! Tell your friends as we are still looking for golfers to golf with us! Stay tuned for more information as it comes in!

Well things are moving right along for our 4th Annual In The Face of an Angel Golf for Ovarian Cancer Research and Outreach programs. Sponsors are coming on board and prizes, silent auction items are being collected now so we will not be rushing around at the last minute but will be more organized than ever! Our Caterer, Dee’s Harvest Table, is busy making up our menu and I know it will be as delicious as ever! If you’ve never had Dee’s delicious meals with those fantastic desserts, you don’t know what you are missing!

Below is Marie, Jackie and Dee herself at last years event!Prepping for 4th Annual In The Face of an Angel Golf for Ovarian Cancer

Prepping for 4th Annual In The Face of an Angel Golf for Ovarian Cancer

The registrations are coming in and we are half full already, I suspect that these women who have registered already are out with their clubs getting in their first swings in order to be ready for that first tee! I myself will have to dust mine off first as they have been stored all winter and I have not got much time to golf and certainly won’t have before May 25th! I just hope I can at least make a decent showing on the first tee off. 🙂

Ovarian Cancer Canada has once again committed to coming and they are just as excited as we are. They will be once again sending a representative to join us. The link to donate online is live and can be found through our website www, inthefaceofanangel.ca, so Please, if you can’t join us, donate, as Ovarian Cancer is women’s #1 killer and it is a silent killer that without proper screening can’t be detected. Most times when it is, it has already made progress.

Anyway, I hope you can join us…there is still room so gather up your gal pals and put together those plans for that fun afternoon on May 25th and join us at Archibald’s Cider House Golf Club. If you want to register go to our website at http://www.inthefaceofanangel.ca and download the registration form, fill it out and email it back to me or send it to me by post. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Until then…be kind to one another!
