In the Face Of An Angel Golf Tournament, helping to raise awareness about Ovarian Cancer.

Category Archives: Uncategorized

Good morning all!

Things are moving along and we are getting great silent auction items for the fundraising we do! I have to thank all the businesses that have been so generous and donated these great items!

Our sponsors have been most generous again this year and they are forever in our hearts! Pebblestone Golf Course, in Courtice, is busy preparing for us and anxious to host this tournament for the second year! We thank you Kate and Paul Sobil!

There have been some issues at the course so we will be unable to have our “after the game luncheon”at Pebblestone Golf so we have rented a room at the Garnet B. Rickard Complex in Bowmanville and Sandy is busy preparing all the silent auction items we have to date so she will be able to transport them all in her very organized fashion! I think you will be thrilled at the vast selection of great items we have this year!

We are still looking for 2 teams so if you know of any ladies that would like to come and golf to support this very worthy cause PLEASE have them contact us at http://www.inthefaceofanangel.ca and register. I would hate to have to reconsider this tournament after 8 years as it means so much to the so many who benefit from the money raised for research and the outreach programs!

I will be posting more frequent to give you all an update as we are getting close now and I look forward to seeing you all there! In the meantime…keep smilin’

As Mother Nature finally smiles upon us and the weather gets better by the day, I travel thru Clarington and see the many golfers hitting the links! As our bodies limber up from the grueling winter and we walk with a spring in our step, we begin to think about the task at hand…our 8th Annual “In The Face of an Angel” Golf  for Ovarian Cancer and raising funds for our Outreach and research programs. Since the inception of this tournament in memory of my Mom, Bernice, we have raised a lot of money for the “Cause” and all of you can be so very proud of this!

Many of you know my sister who has battled Breast Cancer this year(and so far is doing great) has decided to pick up some clubs and enter the tournament as a player and I am so proud of her for that! So when you see her duffing along, be patient, she is just getting started at the game and I have no doubt she will have a lot of fun and make a lot of great memories along the way!

You all should know that Breast Cancer and Ovarian Cancer are linked and we must do whatever we can to help eradicate it in our lifetime. This successful tournament will help us do that, I am sure!

Our Great Sponsors have come back another year and without them, we could not do what we do so when you see their names make a mental note and when you see them in the Community, thank them….it will go a long way to show them that you noticed they continue to help us be successful each and every year with our donation to the “Cause”

We currently have 8 spots left so if you or our friends would like to join us go to our website at http://www.inthefaceofanangel.ca and register NOW! These spots will not stay available forever so do it now while you think about it!

Looking forward to seeing you all there on May 27th at Pebblestone Golf Course, Courtice! Get ready to Tee Off for Ovarian Cancer NOW!

Enjoy this wonderful day in the sunshine! and I will see you all soon!

Our sponsors are once again coming on board! At this time I want to thank the Municipality of Clarington, Syvan Developments, Halminen Corporation, The Old Newcastle House, Algoma Orchards, Veridian, Walsh’s SNUG, East Oshawa Animal Hospital, Gay Construction, Kaitlin Developments Ltd , for their continued support! Without your continued support none of this would be able to take place! Also the many donors for the wonderful silent auction items. These truly are a bonus allowing us to continue to increase our donations to Ovarian Cancer Canada for research and development! In The Face of an Angel has truly made a difference with this continued support!

Game Day, In the Face of An Angel Golf Tournament

Truly the face of an Angel

The reason I am here! Who is your reason? Let’s make it count in 2018!

This is the 6th Annual In The Face of an Angel Golf for Ovarian Cancer and we are almost ready to hit those links! Registrations are coming in daily and I see our last years Winners are coming back to defend their title! Althea, Debbie, Eudora and Cindy are dusting off their clubs and Eudora has probably got the jump on all of us by playing while on vacation in sunny Florida!

Our tournament is being held this year at the beautiful Newcastle Golf & Country Club and Ev is busy preparing things for us to hit the links for a tee off at 1 PM. Dee’s Catering will be bringing a hearty menu once again and one thing for sure is no matter how we play the beautiful meal Dee does for us is heavenly and a great way to end the day!

There will be a silent auction table with great new items added this year and remember all proceeds go to Ovarian Cancer Canada for their Research and Outreach Programs. As you know we have given them over $50,000 in the last 5 years which everyone is thrilled with so even tho it is costing us more to host it this year we have still set our goal at $10,000 and I know you will all help us reach that goal.

I have upgraded my clubs this year at Dan’s Custom Clubs in Hampton and am looking for a much more comfortable game after my surgery this winter…This tournament is my springboard for the others I enter this summer raising funds for all the other causes I play in support of so I can only get better. 🙂

So ladies, round up your teammates to play, your family, neighbours and friends to donate online let’s send Ovarian Cancer Canada the biggest donation we have yet!

I will be updating and blogging routinely up to and including the tournament so watch for them. Sign up for this for free and stay updated with the days events.  You will be glad you did!

Until next time…

2015 In The Face of an Angel Golf for Ovarian Cancer 378Well today I finally met with Avery and Ashleigh of Ovarian Cancer Canada to finally finalize our 2015 “In The Face of an Angel” Golf for Ovarian Cancer Tournament held at Ayren Links Golf Course and I was able to present them a cheque from the tournament for $8,150. I am sure they must have been thinking we would never be able to catch up with each other, but  how fantastic it was to be able to give them another wonderful donation from this little tournament. When we added in the online donations of $1,050 PLUS the offline donations of $1,195 the grand total this tournament made for Ovarian Cancer Canada was $10,395 ! There were high fives all around! I know Avery was elated, as today was her last day with this Ovarian Cancer Canada group because she was heading to Whitehorse to finally meet up with her hubby! What a great guy he must be to have put up with such a long time in this long distance relationship as newly weds! The sacrifices they make for Cause! The people of Whitehorse don’t realize what a cracker jack volunteer they are getting in Avery but it won’t be long until they do!

Thanks again to all of you special people! Way to many to name here but lets just say that many small businesses in our little communities truly show just how generous they are for the Cause and why I love to call this area my home!

A personal THANK YOU to the volunteers that come out no matter what the weather is (and Lord knows this year was like golfing in November, not May!) it goes without saying how invaluable you all are to me and the success of this tournament.

Our cumulative total for our short 5 years doing this is now over $50,000

Ovarian Cancer Canada has advised me they will now keep the “donation page” open for us to be able to donate through the year so if you want to donate when someone passes away for example, you will be able to go to our website, http://www.inthefaceofanangel.ca and donate through their secure page that is linked to this and donate without any concerns. You will also be able to take advantage and donate using your visa/mc or amex on a monthly plan if it is easier for you. Along with all the other options, you can’t beat that option now can you!?

I am humbled by your continued generosity. The true winner in all of this is Ovarian Cancer Canada and the Outreach and Research programs they are able to provide with this funding to the hundreds of women in need of this support in our communities.

Rain, Sleet, Snow, or Hail does not deter the women who continue to golf in this tournament! Each and every one of them are troopers who play not only for the love of the game but for the Cause. Thank You Ladies for another super year and as you prepare to put your clubs away for this season, think back and remember it was each and every one of you who helped achieve this remarkable goal and for that I am forever grateful. See you May 29th, 2016 for our 6th “In The Face of an Angel” Golf for Ovarian Cancer Tournament! Save the date, won’t you?

Hello again…We just got back from Ayren Links golf course and going over the final details with Moe and Betty. Betty let me know in no uncertain terms that there is a dress code on this course and will be in force on the day of the tournament. I wish I had been told sooner and I would have sent it all with the golf package! I don’t like surprises….

Here are the details for everyone…please be sure to dress accordingly…I’d hate to have anyone asked to leave because they did not dress appropriately. I am sure this group dresses appropriately all the time so I am expecting no issues to have to deal with anyway…here are the requirements….

Slacks

Shorts with minimum inseam

Full Shirts-if sleeveless must have a collar

Socks

NOT ALLOWED:

Cut Offs

Spandex/Lycra

Tank Tops

Sandals or Golf Sandals

Lets get ready to raise plenty of funds for Ovarian Cancer this year and have a great time doing it! I am looking forward to seeing everyone again and hope that Mother Nature shines pleasantly down on us once again this year! See you all soon!
