2015 In The Face of an Angel Golf for Ovarian Cancer 378Well today I finally met with Avery and Ashleigh of Ovarian Cancer Canada to finally finalize our 2015 “In The Face of an Angel” Golf for Ovarian Cancer Tournament held at Ayren Links Golf Course and I was able to present them a cheque from the tournament for $8,150. I am sure they must have been thinking we would never be able to catch up with each other, but  how fantastic it was to be able to give them another wonderful donation from this little tournament. When we added in the online donations of $1,050 PLUS the offline donations of $1,195 the grand total this tournament made for Ovarian Cancer Canada was $10,395 ! There were high fives all around! I know Avery was elated, as today was her last day with this Ovarian Cancer Canada group because she was heading to Whitehorse to finally meet up with her hubby! What a great guy he must be to have put up with such a long time in this long distance relationship as newly weds! The sacrifices they make for Cause! The people of Whitehorse don’t realize what a cracker jack volunteer they are getting in Avery but it won’t be long until they do!

Our cumulative total for our short 5 years doing this is now over $50,000

Ovarian Cancer Canada has advised me they will now keep the “donation page” open for us to be able to donate through the year so if you want to donate when someone passes away for example, you will be able to go to our website, http://www.inthefaceofanangel.ca and donate through their secure page that is linked to this and donate without any concerns. You will also be able to take advantage and donate using your visa/mc or amex on a monthly plan if it is easier for you. Along with all the other options, you can’t beat that option now can you!?

I am humbled by your continued generosity. The true winner in all of this is Ovarian Cancer Canada and the Outreach and Research programs they are able to provide with this funding to the hundreds of women in need of this support in our communities.

Rain, Sleet, Snow, or Hail does not deter the women who continue to golf in this tournament! Each and every one of them are troopers who play not only for the love of the game but for the Cause. Thank You Ladies for another super year and as you prepare to put your clubs away for this season, think back and remember it was each and every one of you who helped achieve this remarkable goal and for that I am forever grateful. See you May 29th, 2016 for our 6th “In The Face of an Angel” Golf for Ovarian Cancer Tournament! Save the date, won’t you?

Dee’s Catering from Dee’s Harvest Table has assured me she has a great meal planned so I will see all of you lucky ladies there!

Get out and enjoy this warm weather by hitting the links and brushing off those clubs that have been in storage all winter! You will be sure ready for May 31st at Ayren Links if you do!

Well things are moving right along for our 4th Annual In The Face of an Angel Golf for Ovarian Cancer Research and Outreach programs. Sponsors are coming on board and prizes, silent auction items are being collected now so we will not be rushing around at the last minute but will be more organized than ever! The registrations are coming in and we are half full already, I suspect that these women who have registered already are out with their clubs getting in their first swings in order to be ready for that first tee! I myself will have to dust mine off first as they have been stored all winter and I have not got much time to golf and certainly won’t have before May 25th! I just hope I can at least make a decent showing on the first tee off. 🙂

Ovarian Cancer Canada has once again committed to coming and they are just as excited as we are. They will be once again sending a representative to join us. The link to donate online is live and can be found through our website www, inthefaceofanangel.ca, so Please, if you can’t join us, donate, as Ovarian Cancer is women’s #1 killer and it is a silent killer that without proper screening can’t be detected. Most times when it is, it has already made progress.

Anyway, I hope you can join us…there is still room so gather up your gal pals and put together those plans for that fun afternoon on May 25th and join us at Archibald’s Cider House Golf Club. If you want to register go to our website at http://www.inthefaceofanangel.ca and download the registration form, fill it out and email it back to me or send it to me by post. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Until then…be kind to one another!

To the volunteers that helped out organizing and making sure it went well, I thank you! You all know who you are. Willie and Ron, what can I say…without you both the day would not have been complete……….and to all those special “Angels” who donated online to “In The Face Of An Angel” through my “In the Face of an Angel” website to help in the fight against Ovarian Cancer…GOD BLESS YOU!!!

The day started of with us all wondering if we were going to get rain that usually threatens at that time of year but Mother Nature smiled upon us once again and we sent volunteer Ron Hooper to the chipping contest location and volunteer Willie Woo to the putting contest location and off we went to our individual holes to start the tournament.

Fred Archibald, had done a fantastic job preparing Cider House Golf Course for us, the fairways and greens were lovely, the sun was shining, we couldn’t ask for better conditions. Many memories, much laughter and even a fun round of golf was had.

Dees Dee’s Harvest Table once again catered the event and did a                           fabulous job! The food was delicious and so much to be had, thank goodness the ladies were hungry and many went for seconds. A compliment to any Chef!

Catherine Argiropoulous of Ovarian Cancer Canada, came again this year and spoke to us about the ways our funds are used in the research and development with Ovarian Cancer Canada and of some of the strides that have been made over the past year. It is great to know our dollars raised help women who can’t otherwise afford the prosthesis necessary, counselling or the have the ability to attend a support group. These are just some of the ways we are helping, there are many more…

A thank you to our  2013 winners!  Stephanie Best, Sandy Best, Bennita Brown, and Linda Kocur! Good job ladies! Your name has made it to the big trophy for 2013 and you should be proud!

So that pretty well sums up  the 2013 “In The Face Of An Angel” Golf for Ovarian Cancer Tournament. This tournament is in memory of my Mom, Bernice who passed away in 2008 of Peritoneal Ovarian Cancer, a rare form of Ovarian Cancer. Mom would be proud of the job we are doing raising funds that will hopefully help so many women in Canada. Mom was a wonderful woman who loved to have fun and I know she will be looking down on us guiding and protecting us all. I know we had a lot of fun and look forward to a fantastic time in 2014!

Hope to see you there!
